ST PETERSBURG -
After investigating a series of arsons and acts of vandalism for over a year, St. Petersburg Police officers arrested Jessica Sowick, 26, of St. Petersburg. They say she is a potential
suspect in six arson cases.
Causeway Isle neighbors are relieved to hear about an arrest. "Wow ! Well we've been waiting for this. That's for sure. Everybody's been on edge. So it would be nice to have it done and over with,
that's for sure" said Tracy Lovett.
Investigators said Sowick was caught on a surveillance camera that was installed in a tree at a vacant house in south St. Petersburg. The home where the camera was installed had been a
target for recent arsons, vandalism and a burglary. "She did not start a fire. But she did make reference to the prior fires on the graffiti that she wrote on the wall" said Mike Puetz of the St.
Petersburg Police Department.
Police say the camera captured Sowick writing profanities on the house wall similar to the ones found at other arson crime scenes.
Officers arrested her Monday. Sowick denied involvement in previous arson cases. Investigators are looking into whether Sowick might have been involved in similar crimes in Arizona and
Pennsylvania.
